forsaken week, and the first day of school

 I'm sorry I've forsaken you this week, I really am! This last week was crazy fun and jam packed with awesome. I could blame my lack of posts on that, but in reality, I was just lazy when it came to posts. Sorry.

So this last week I did a few things in my final attempts at living it up in my last days of summer. I mean, I went to the temple! I know that's not most peoples idea of "living it up" but it's sure mine! It was the highlight of my week just as it always is.

It was also my cool sister Danielle's 15th birthday on Sunday. Here is a picture of her with a fry that looks like a hat from her birthday dinner. Happy birthday beautiful sister of mine!
happy birthday Danielle!!!
I also had the opportunity to run The Color Run 5K in Salt Lake City with my dad and one of my best friends Lauren. That was so much fun! They aren't kidding when they say it is the "Happiest 5k on the Planet".

We got covered in colorful cornstarch and my hair (as well as my armpits, and pretty much everywhere else on my body) turned an awesome sickly color of green. I washed my hair 3 times before realizing my hair was going to need special treatment. When talking to Amberleigh (one of my super amazing EFY counselors, whom I love lots and lots.) days before going to school I realized that there was a large chance I would be going to school on Monday with green hair, I also realized that the situation wasn't going to change, but the way I looked at the situation would determine what I made of it. I thought of a quote by Marjorie Pay Hinckley...

             The only way to get through life is to
          laugh your way through it.
                         You either have to laugh or cry.
         I prefer to laugh as
crying gives me a headache.
                         -Marjorie Hinckley

While I wanted nothing more than to go to school not looking like I had dip dyed my hair in pureed green beens, I knew that I needed to have a positive attitude, or I would ultimately have a terrible first day of school. I decided then and there that I would laugh about it.

Now, I tried everything. Lemon juice, baby oil, hot oil treatment, 8 time shampooing and conditioning my hair, and lotion. Oh, and a few prayers. The lotion and the prayers helped the most and I was so blessed to go to school this morning with BLOND HAIR! I was more than pleased. So if you ever get green cornstarch in your hair that dyes it green, put lotion in it and start to pray. Ha

Me, in the truck, about to drive myself to my first day of Junior year. Crazy stuff.

 So like I said, today was the first day of school. It was surprisingly one of my better first days of school that I've ever had. I was not happy about ending my summer of fun, but I think it will be a pretty good year this year. (I mean, when you have a volunteer from an outlying district, that's something you can't ignore. #namethatmovie) But it really was a darn good day. I mean, I had TWO missionary experiences at school today and it was only the first day of school. Life is good. team mates make things fun. School is good. I hope tomorrow brings the same amount of joy as today did. Go read your scriptures, say your prayers, remember who you are, and so on, and so forth, and whatnot, and what have you. I love you all!

Last day of school

city creek a the beginning of the year

Well, this is it. One year later and there are no more tears. Our last day of school has come and I couldn't be happier. It is a very different feeling than last year. Last year consisted of mushy gushy feelings like THIS and, THIS. But today I don't think I will cry at all. To tell you the truth I still long for my Jr. High days because they tasted so sweet, but nevertheless, life goes on.

It has been a good year. If you would have asked me at the end of last year what I would have thought this year would bring I would have a very different answer than what really happened. I would have thought I'd at least gone on one date. I thought I would just have a million friends, I didn't know quitting theatre would have such an effect on my social group. Though some of this year has been bitter, It wasn't all bad. I wouldn't have thought I'd have gotten this close to my small group of friends and I wouldn't have thought I'd have met my childhood idol! This year has proven to be great for our little group of 5. I eat lunch in the park every day and I drive a minivan to school. Boys don't talk to me much, but the ones that do mean so much more to me. It wasn't what I thought it would be, but it was good nonetheless. Now I can't wait until summer!

Kellog's Tour. BEST DAY EVER!
Now while my time at the school wasn't my favorite, the time at the gym was. This year there has been a few changes and I am now one of the oldest. I have made many close friends this year that I have never had with anyone from tumbling before. I have become much better friends with my Co-workers and we have a blast every day. I can always count on them to pick me up when school doesn't go the way I plan. I know I made the right decision to continue in this and not theatre, even though it was difficult. I love you guys! And Stirfry, you will make a fantastic missionary! We are so proud of you!

So I don't know where that leaves me. Back in the gym I suppose? After the initial pool party, the burning of the homework, and the inevitable sun burn I guess I’ll find myself back in the gym 4+ days a week and blogging often. I’ll attend EFY, girls camp, 4th year hike, trek, National Championships, and possibly EFY again this summer, but other than that you will find me in the gym. It will be one of the greatest summers ever, but then again, every summer is the greatest in my book.

Thanks for a great year guys! See you next September!

p.s. Is it bad that I think I'm more sad about finishing the last season of Jonas LA last night than I am about the school year ending?

10th grade lament

{My friends and I with Shannon Hale at the beginning of the year.}

This year has been a lot, but it doesn't seem like it should be ending yet. Don't get me wrong, I am very grateful for this summer to come and won't miss school a bit while I am chilling in Missouri, or meeting attractive warriors of Helaman's army at EFY this summer. But there are things I have learned this year about myself that I hope I can carry with me for a long time.

One thing I learned was that popularity absolutely doesn't matter. In Jr. High I was popular enough. I had tons of friends and I knew everyone. This year is very different. I began this year eating lunch in the park every day with a group of about 9 friends. This was minuscule compared to the huge friend group I ate with last year, but it was still good and I felt like I fit in. Now I don't share my lunch time with quite so many people. I still eat at our little gazebo in the park, but we never have more than three or four of us. There have been times when I wished I was back in that lunch room at Fairfield where our group would fill two and a half tables and we would still have people standing around the group. I wish I still talked to boys as often as I used to. But even though my friend group has shrunk in size, it has grown in how close we are.

I may have much fewer friends this year, but I have spent much more time spending time with friends than I ever have in my life. Part of this is the fact that we can drive now and that it is much easier to plan a get together with three of us than it is to plan a get together with thirty of us. But it is more than that. I have grown closer to several people this year and it has been fun to have someone to tell your embarrassing stories or your thoughts about boys to and have them there to laugh with you. Carina, Nayethzi, Marissa, Katie and Hannah in particular have been a few friends that I have grown closer to this year and have loved every second of it. I have grown closer to my young women’s group so much that the other night the three of us that were there sat with our leader and had a boy confession session for a good three hours. It was a blast and I love hanging out with those girls.

And finally, I must talk about my team. I have grown so close to my team mates this year. This year we struggled when several of our team mates and best friends left the gym to go peruse other things in their lives. I had to say goodbye to a few people who had been a part of my life for a very long time. It was hard for me to think that I wouldn’t see them every day as I had in the past. But in doing this I gained many new friends. I became closer to Teri and we became great friends. I became closer to the other coaches and we now have a lot of fun together. I became closer to the rest of the team. This year has been a switch for me from being one of the young ones last year in my group of tumbling friends, to being one of the oldest on the team. Being one of the oldest and one of the only few competing at nationals automatically puts you in a position of leadership for the team. Though I may not have been voted in to any official position, I feel like I must take the team into my hands and be a friend and an example to my team.

This year hasn't been my favorite, but it has been good and I learned a lot. I am ready for summer... too bad I still have two more weeks.

Sometimes I mix church and state, so sue me.

Insert attention getter here-----------------> {ATTENTION GETTER!}

It's Wednesday... Not sure how I feel about it, seems how I'm home, and not at the gym right now. Ya I don't like it. But I will be back soon enough. My teacher gave us a lecture about how important it is to put an attention getter at the beginning of your writing... so I did. My teacher is so cool. Please don't lay him off.

I just thought I'd give my two cents on the budget cuts that are supposed to take place on the first. {Ya, I'm cool and know about the world and stuff.} First off I'd like to say making these cuts in our educational system will only hurt the country worse. We are the future of America and the quality of our education depends on the funds our school receives. Without teachers the student's will be the ones who suffer. Do you really want to fix the nations economy by taking opportunity from the students? I don't know where you grew up and I don't know where you come from, but I don't think you have ever sat in a classroom that is over full. I have. I have been in a class with over 40 kids and only room for about 30. I struggled in that class because I got almost no help from the teacher. I didn't get to sit at desk for half the year. Please don't take money from my school. I don't think you have ever sat in a school that was so hot it was unsafe because it didn't have air conditioning. I have. There were students that were sent to the hospital because of heat stroke, and we had to do math in the hallways because it was 2 degrees cooler. Please don't take money from my school. I don't know if you ever got involved in the extra curricular activities, but I did. Theatre was a huge part of my Jr. High experience and is a big part of who I am today. These extra curricular activities such as sports and theatre keep kids out of trouble and give us something to achieve. Please don't take money from my school. I know you have never had to use an online text book because "online" was something foreign to you when you were growing up. The online text books don't work. They have typos and errors, and they make it hard for families with several children. I know you think every family in America has multiple computers, tablets, and apple products to use, but the reality... not everybody has those things. I may be fortunate enough to have resources in my home, but I know many people who don't. {I must also note that none of your text books work on Apple products since Apple has blocked these sights, and they don't work on Kindles either, because the Kindles don't read the format of the online books.} It is not fair for these students to have to suffer because you can't figure out the government. I may not know everything, but I know enough to say that the future of America rests in your hands. Please be careful with it.

Now I'm sure that was a long and boring paragraph for most of you. Congrats on finishing it! Now I'd like to leave some thoughts and scriptures with all y'all who, like me, are amazed by these great and terrible thinks taking place in the world. This was from my scripture study this morning. Take from it what you will.

1 Thessalonians 5

2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
3 For when they shall say, peace and safety; then  sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
4 But ye, bretheren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.
5 Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.
6 Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.
7 For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.
8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for a helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ.

I believe these scriptures go along perfectly with our theme schripture this year...

        "Wherefore,
                STAND YE in holy places,
                                   and be not moved,
                       until the day of the Lord Come;
                                                                        for behold,
            it cometh quickly
saith the Lord, Amen"
                                        -D&C 87:8

I believe these are dark times, and that they will get darker the nearer we get to our final hour. We must stand as an army of God, ready to contend with all evil. I encourage you to stay strong, and to keep on fighting.

Lancer Pride

Last night was our high school homecoming game. I went with some of my Junior friends because my Sophmore friends where lame and they all either couldn't go, or didn't want to. I had a BLAST! We went to Carinas house before and colored our hair, painted our faces, and ate food, then we went to the game and It was great except for the part where the tall guy in the purple shirt stood infront of me.... The downside of being 4 foot 9. Layton won and we headed to Burger Stop after. Then when Burger stop closed the lady kicked us out so we hung out in the parking lot by the drive through for a while and had a blast. Last night was super fun! Thanks for a fun night! GO LANCERS!
