I hit my halfway mark this week. How did that happen? Not quite sure...
Let me tell you.
So... You know the game operation? Where you try to get things out of the dude with out touching the metal parts?
(I'm sorry this game is basically porn...)
Well leaving
Buena Vista YSA was like someone was trying to get the rubber band out
of my leg or the broken heart out of my chest. Only they suck at this
game and they kept touching the sides and I kept getting electrocuted in
my feelings.
But you know, it's fine.
I'm
in The DeLand 2nd Ward now and am having a swell time. I LOVE Sister
Larsen. We get along like peanut butter and chocolate. (Sad s/o to
Sister Berry for that simile... President and Sister Berry go home this
week.) Sister Larsen and I have so much fun together. She thinks I'm
crazy but she is always laughing at me and it makes me feel good about
myself. Haha by day three we were already having conversations like we
have been best friends for years. We are going to have a swell time
together.
Let me tell you about the week.
Monday was my last day in BV. My heart hurts just thinking about it. We had p-Day and then
headed over to a cookout at Mickey's Retreat with the ward for FHE.
(Fun fact: If you call it a BBQ in the south you are incorrect.
Hamburgers & hotdogs = cookout.) And that was so much fun. Goodness.
I took pictures with some of my favorite humans on this planet. The
Ward passed around my transfer journal and lots of people wrote really
nice things in it. They made it really hard to leave. I felt oh so
loved.
Transfer Tuesday they
ripped me from my home and sent me to DeLand. I was so sad to say
goodbye to Sister Hart. S/o to baby Hart! There have been multiple times
this week when I've tried to write "heart" but accidentally written
"hart" and then I get sad. Love you girl!
So I got to DeLand and went to 🌶 Chili's
with a member. 'Twas very delicious. Dropped my stuff off at the
apartment, and had a quick lunch, a phone lesson with a recent convert
named M, and then we had someone drop us off in our area to do
some tracting. I think I've walked a hundred miles this week. And I love
it. That night we also had a lesson with W who is on date to be
baptized on July 30th!
Wednesday
I HIT NINE MONTHS! I have NO IDEA how that happened. I can't believe
HALF my mission has already come and gone. I feel like I've been out for
roughly twenty three seconds... I started out the day per usual. When
we went down to meet our ride by the front gate we checked the mail and I
had a package from my family with a cute CTR ring, some nail polish and
a note that said "Hi Sister Reid,
Happy Half Way Day!! We are so proud of you and we are so grateful you
have the opportunity to serve a mission. Keep up the good work. We love
you!! Your Family <3" THANKS FAM! Oh my. I love y'all a whole bunch.
So
we went to DM. I gave a safeguards thought. 😎 After DM we had lunch at
the church with the district, a lesson with the coolest lady named
B. Her granddaughter M gave me a sticker to put on the back
of my tag. It was presh. We did a bunch of walking and talked to lots of
people. That night we had dinner with the Hunters at Captain D's and
had some yummy fish. I love living on the East Coast. 🐠🐟🐠🐟
Then we had coordination and Book of Mormon class. We also took some
"happy 9 month pictures" and Sister Larsen and I were laughing so hard
we were crying.
Thursday
we went to Lake Helen and THIS IS THE TINY TOWN THAT I'VE ALWAYS
DREAMED ABOUT! Like... PEOPLE RIDE THEIR HORSES TO THE LIBRARY HERE AND
IT'S SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE. 🐎 Goodness. This is my dream. So we walked
all over Lake Helen (because we don't have a car this week) and I
explored the cutest town ever. I took a picture at the corner of Orange
Avenue and Lemmon Avenue. I also found my dream house. You guys. This is
my dream town. We visited some sweet old ladies that we are friends
with (Miss E and Sister R) We watered Miss E's plants
and helped Sister R print stuff out at the library. We had dinner
with Sister R and then headed to a lesson with W. We talked
about tithing. Then we went to a relief society activity and made cards
for soldiers over seas and hats for cancer patients. I made friends with
some ladies in the Ward and they picked on me a little. They had me
laughing so hard I was crying. I think that was kind of the theme of
this week.
Friday was
a whole lot of weekly planning.... Or as I like to call it "Fat Friday"
because I basically eat everything in the kitchen every Friday.
Saturday
we had a lesson with a guy named R and he is AWESOME! We taught the
Plan of Salvation and it was swell. We also wrote thank you cards to
basically the whole Ward and did quite a bit of area book finding.
Sunday they had me speak in church. I spoke on happiness. Mosiah 2:41
my friends. It's my mantra. And while the Stake President was talking
something flew from the celling to the curtain on the window and I
THOUGHT IT WAS A BIRD BUT NO IT WAS A MASSIVE COCKROACH BEETLE THING SENT
FROM THE UNDERWORLD AND no. Just no. Everybody's faces were priceless.
Florida my friends.
We
had a lesson with W after church, delivered some thank you cards to
people and drove down some dirt...er...sand roads in the middle of
nowhere, had dinner with the Leedom's. They made me play guitar and sing
for them. Their daughter Fairedes who is in young women's sang some
country songs with me. It was presh. They also let me hold THE FLUFFIEST
BUNNY IN THE WORLD. Goodness. Sunday was lovely.
Well... I think I'm gonna like it here.
Today is P-Day. Hermana Stokey has told me she is going to teach me how to play gatorball so... Pray for me. #REUNITEDATLAST
We are getting a new mission presidential this week! We get to meet him on Thursday!
I love y'all more than large beetles love to interrupt sacrament meetings in Florida.
